Full Version: EAC won't work with my Plextor or LG

Greetings,

I just recently joined these forums.

I am having alot of trouble getting my system to work with EAC ripping to Flac.
I am using the latest d/l version of EAC and Accuraterip.

I am not sure where the problem is.

But...I have 2 optical drives in my computer....a Plextor 712a and a new LG GSA-55l.

The problems:

using the Plextor...EAC can never finish a rip....it just comes to a crawl and essentially stalls....Doesnt matter the CD...scratched or brand new. Acurrate rip correctly identifies and processes key discs...the offset it comes up with is +30...which matches what I saw on the accuraterip web page.

using the LG...Accurate rip can never calibrate itself...it recognizes when Ive put in a keydisc but it then tells me the Disk didnt match the one in its database, try another....I have tried well over 25 cds that i know are in the database.... Also have the same results as with the plextor when using EAC....just stalls.. usually showing sync errors or read errors...the error recover lights fill up.

Using WMP11 both drives can rip CD's to MP3 without showing any problems or errors.

I do not think its bad CD's since it happens with all of them and most of mine are clean and scratch free...

FYI these are all original store bought CD's.

This is becomming very frustrating.

Would appreciate any help/advice?

Thanks,

DARcode
If it's V0.99 prebeta 3 you're using I'd suggest giving V0.95b4 a try, can be installed in different folders and coexist.

...but still uses the same registry location. The author warns against doing this:

I highly doubt switching to V0.95b4 will fix the problem because none of the ripping routines were changed. If it does, please report back.

I forgot to mention that I tried several versions of EAC...including V0.95b4. Pretty much the same results...just different parts of the same disc where it stalled/crawled.

At this point I suspect something with Windows, Drivers or my IDE ports. I seriosuly doubt both optical drives are bad. The issues are random enough to indicate a OS or interface problem.

But accuraterip constantly recongnizing a key-disc then tellming it doesnt match the database is confusing.

Not sure what WMP11 not having any problems tells me.. Of course I didnt anaylize every MP3 WMP created but the ones I did sounded just fine.

Would suck to endup ripping my collection using MP3.

Did you try different interfaces like NeroASPI or ASAPI?

Also double checking your settings with this guide could help.

Yes I tried all 3...Native, VOB d/l and Nero dll.

Not sure which guide you are refering too...but I found about 3 or so when I searched on the web...of course they didnt match...and all 3 seemed realyl out of date versus the current version of EAC...but I follwed them best I could.

Yeah, online guides for EAC are hit and miss. Most of the ones I've seen are miss. The one DARcode is probably talking about can be found in his signature, which I consider to be a hit. The thing is that none of these sites are geared towards troubleshooting problems.

There was another discussion I was reading recently that suggested that a good cleaning of the drive may improve the situation. Maybe that might help?

Thanks for all the help.

Last night I replaced my ribbon cable....old one looked fine but i figure putting a new one couldnt hurt.

Well i guess something was in fact bad or going bad with my cable because things started working.

Now EAC would rip a CD....but it would be EXTREMELY slow...even on CD's i knew were new and scratch free.

I got fed up with EAC...ON the advice of someone in another forum, I decided to give dbPowerAmp a shot.

Very simple to set up and use....Using my LG it was able to rip in secure mode about 50 of my CD's last night...just have about 350 more to go =P Took about 5-8min per CD depending on how much error correction was required....One of those CD's in good condition took damn near an hour to rip using EAC.

Not sure what the deal with EAC was but it just didnt like me, my box or my CD's. And its just too hard to troubleshoot.

dbPowerAmp uses Accuraterip and had no problems identifying key discs and calibrating itself.

I am pleased so far with dbPowerAmp....it even downloads and creats the folder.jpg file for artwork that Sonos will be able to use.
