I'm just wondering if it's possible for Foobar2000 to edit the filename of the audio file? The reason why I ask this is because EAC cannot rip music files with Chinese characters present. As a result, I just rip the files as is without any titles or artist names. I want to properly rename the files after it's ripped by EAC. Does Foobar2000 have a way to rename files as well?
For tagging, I don't see the mass tagging feature when I right-click on some files. Can I just edit the tags of a particular file, one by one, by right-clicking the file and go to the properties section to change whatever field that I want? If so, will this save into the audio file? Will this somehow "wreck" the file structure of my FLAC files? Will this re-encode my FLAC files? Basically what I really want to know is if editing tags with Foobar2000 will affect my FLAC files at all in a negative manner?

You can of course select multiple files and open the Properties dialog. By playing around with it a little, you're going to discover convenient features like
entering the titles of multiple tracks, or
guessing values from the filenames.

Yes, just make sure the Masstagger component is installed, if it's not, re-run setup and enable it.
You can find the command to rename files in the context menu at File Operations,
Move, Rename or Copy Files.
Answers to your last questions in order:
- Yes, tags are saved to your audio files.
- No, it adds a tag right where it's supposed to be added according to the FLAC file format specifications.
- No, files are never reencoded when you tag them.
- No, your files won't be harmed.
Really, tagging is everyday business, don't worry about it.

How do I enter multiple track titles at once? Can you tell me how to enable the Mass Tagger component? I don't see it anywhere.

I already told you: "by playing around with it". I don't mean to be rude, but is it asked too much to just open the Properties dialog for multiple files and try to right-click on, let's say the Title field?

I meant enabling it during setup, in the "Choose Components" step.

I'm sorry if I'm acting like a dumbass, but Foobar isn't exactly newbie friendly. I just checked out that website of yours and I think you made a guide on how to use the tagging feature, but unfortunately I can't read German.
I'm actually overwhelmed by the number of features in Foobar. I just wished there was a nice guide out there with some pictures to help.
If I highlight all of the fields and attempt to change the track title, then it'll save that one track title for all the tracks. I can see the viability of what you said if I'm just editing the artist name and album title, but you can't possible use this feature for editing the track titles for multiple tracks.
Moderation: Removed redundant full-quote of the previous post. Again.

I finished reading both guides and I still don't know how to change file names.

Try "Right Click >> File Operations >> Move, Rename or Copy Files". This will allow you to change the filenames using the naming scheme you want from the metadata.

I'm still stuck at that part as I don't know how to set Foobar 2000 to the naming scheme that I want. The reason why I couldn't do this in EAC is because EAC doesn't support unicode characters so in a way I am going backwards to fix things up and give it the artist name and album name.
My EAC naming scheme is set up like this:
CODE
%A - %C\%A - %C - %N - %T
How can I set Foobar2000 to rename files to that scheme? Also, can Foobar 2000 rename folders as well? As you can see from the naming scheme, my folders have artist name and album name.

I think I figured it out, but I don't understand why there is a gap between the extension and the title of the song. All of my songs are encoded with Chinese characters. I'll use English as an example to demonstrate the problem that I am experiencing.
CODE
Song .mp3
Notice the space there? At first I thought maybe the Chinese characters forced the creation of those spaces, but I then tried to rename the file as an experiment and indeed found out that those spaces can be removed without deleting the Chinese characters. Can someone tell me why that is the case?
Also, how do I prevent Foobar from deleting the previous music files? I want to be able to compare them, but it seems like the orignals are removed.
%A - %C\%A - %C - %N - %T
I'll assume %c is album...
this is all very basic stuff and generally applies to most audio programs, even winamp has a similar type of thing... with examples...
http://wiki.hydrogenaudio.org/index.php?ti...ormat_Reference%artist% - %album%\%artist% - %album% - %tracknumber% - %title%

You must simply have a space after that string (in the relevant place in foobar).
foosion
Oct 21 2007, 03:21
If this is about the spaces at the end, try the following:
CODE
%artist% - %album%\$trim(%artist% - %album% - %tracknumber% - %title%)
The spaces are not added by foobar2000, so they must be in your tags.
Synthetic Soul
Oct 21 2007, 03:42
Ha, of course.
Alternatively, and preferably IMHO, use Masstagger to remove these trailing spaces before using a standard copy string. Just use "Format value from other fields..." and set TAG to $trim(%tag%), e.g.:
Detination field name: TITLE
Formatting pattern: $trim(%title%)
Here's a simple
script that will tidy ARTIST, ALBUM, and TITLE.

Alternatively, update to 0.9.5 beta and run "Clean Up" in the Properties dialog.

An easier way would be too use the Properties dialog in 0.9.5. Select the title field and choose "Clean up" from from the context menu. This does a few more things than justing trimming spaces (like converting underscores to spaces), but since you can check the preview this should not be a problem.

The spaces are not added by foobar2000, so they must be in your tags.
Shouldn't I use the $trim setting at the end of the title of the song? The space only occurs between the title and extension. I already gave an example of what I meant, but I'll do it again.
CODE
Title .mp3
Notice the space between the title and the period?

I just used the beta to rename the files and things seem to go well except for the fact that Foobar end up moving the songs out of the original folder. Since this is a soundtrack, there are multiple artists in the album. It just moves those songs that are sang by other people out of the folder. How do I stop Foobar from doing this?

Use ALBUM ARTIST and ARTIST tags, then use these in your script.
FYI: My script is:
[%album artist%\][%album%\][Disc %discnumber%\][%tracknumber% - ]%title%$if($meta(album artist),' ('$meta(artist)')',)
