Full Version: Is it possible for better icon support?

I just switched over from winamp, and I love the player (especially how lightweight it is) but one thing bugged me: the icons. Of course I can go through every file's file types and change it, but that's a real hassle when I just want the same icon for every file format. Is it possible to have a global icon setting within foobar? Or at least the option to not change the icons when associating those filetypes with fb2k.
Purple Monkey
check "foobar2000\icons". Foobar will use one of those icons for each file type, if it exists.

I know that, but I still had to either rename a file to every one of those or go through each file's properties and change it. Either way, it's pretty annoying.

I'm not sure what exactly you were doing, but the foobar (see preferences) file association dialog should do the job. Maybe something like MS Tweak UIs "rebuild icons" may be also necessary, but I don't think so.

I don't want Foobar's icons, because I had my own icons. Which of course was overwritten when I associated them with FB. So I had to go through each of their filetypes and change it back to the original icon.

A way to have FB give you a choice of what icon to associate with them would be nice, with a global icon as well for those of us who don't need a separate icon for every audio filetype.

Just replace the appropriate icon files with yours inside foobar2000/icons then do a disassociate and associate for those file types inside foobar (maybe you will need to do a rebuild icon cache). The global icon is the generic.ico file. If you want a global icon then just delete all the other and keep only this one.

I prefer options about the properties menu, replaygain, etc than for icon association!!

Too much options means bloatiness to some extent.

More bloat than the 500k used by the icons? Or the time wasted having to go through each file type (about 20) and fix them, since FB thinks it knows what icons I should use better than I do?

It's really simple to replace the icons.
Heck, if you don't want to use any of Foobar's icon and still keep file asociations, then just delete all the icons, drop your icon in the folder, name it generic.ico and re-associate.

How is this hard, again?

Or use Iconpackenger or programs like that..Yea donkor it's really not that hard, system type things like that, have to be done by the system.

Well, for example winamp gives you a bunch of different options of what icon you want to use. If foobar can change all my icons in the first place, why can't it give me the option of either:
a) Not changing them at all
or
b) Giving me a choice of what icon to install within the program? Instead of having to jump through hoops like deleting all the icons except generic and moving files from my main icons folder into foobar's.

One of the reasons foobar's Preferences menu is usable and winamp's is a crowded mess is because it doesn't have buttons, switches, levers and widgets for useless crap like this.

The Fact is you CAN change the icons in foobar. If you don't like how foobar does that, then you can use another audio player, if it's really this big of a deal.
