I am using FLAC Frontend version 1.1.2.
I am trying to convert .wav files to FLAC files using the following process:
1. I open Flac Frontend
2. I add a .wav file to be encoded.
3. Press Encode button.

I get the following error:

options: -p4244 -b 4608 -m -l 8 -9 0 -r 0,4
filename.wav: Warning: Found non-standard "fmt" sub-chunk which has length=40
filename.wav: Error: unsupported compression type 65534

Can anyone here please help me?

Thanks to all!!

Did you mean FLAC 1.2.1 (the latest)?

I am using FLAC version 1.1.2 and
FLAC Frontend version 1.7.1

I guess that my version of FLAC must not be the latest, but would that be my problem?

OK. I have upgraded to the newest version of FLAC. (1.2.1b I believe).

I still get the same error message.

Any suggestions? Thoughts of what I'm doing wrong?

Thanks for your help!!

you probably have an old version of flac.exe somewhere in your search path, watch the dos box when it comes up and check the version.

type 65534 is waveformatextensible which flac.exe first supported in 1.1.3

Jcoalson,
I think you are right! This is what I did:
I copied a .wav file to the Flac Directory and did a very simple run (using DOS commands) and indeed Flac.exe converted my .wav file to a .flac file with no problems. The DOS screen showed that I was using Flac version 1.2.1 which is what I wanted.

Now, when I try to convert the .wav file using FLAC Frontend, I still get the error and looking at the DOS screen it shows a version 1.1.2 which I know now that it is the older version.

So, is the problem with FLAC Frontend? How can I tell FLAC Frontend which version to use?

Thanks!!

Search your hard drive for flac.exe and remove the offending version.

As Josh says, you probably have a version in a folder in PATH. If you remove it, FLAC Frontend will revert to the new version.

Found it!! Indeed there was an older version in the computer which I deleted. Now FLAC Frontend is using the newest version and everything works great.

THANKS TO ALL!!!!!!
