I have quite a few CDs saved in my computer in FLAC format. I would like to save them in my iTunes directory to be used with my iPod.
Is there a way to make this process automated? I would like for NOT to have to enter artist/CD info again. Also, I don't want to have to load every CD and have it read by iTunes!

No iPod, nor iTunes can play FLAC files. You will need to convert them to ALAC (Lossless) or to MP3 and/or AAC (m4a) to add them to your iTunes directory and for use with your iPod. I suggest that you use foobar2000 to convert your FLAC files. Use LAME (MP3), or NeroAACEncoder or iTunesEncoder (to use iTunes AAC or MP3) if you prefer Apple's encoders.
Omni Encoder can convert your FLAC files to MP3 or AAC with tags intact. Actually its what I wrote it for - I keep a FLAC backup of all my CDs and convert to Lame MP3 for iPod use. You can even use it to apply replaygain processing during conversion, to make the volume levels all the same.
Convert the files to either LAME MP3 or iTunes AAC for best results. If you use Nero you won't get gapless, but Omni Encoder supports it as well.

The iPod (stock firmware) don't play FLAC, so your files need to be converted.
I suggest you use Max to convert them to Apple Lossless (it will transfer all tags). Then add them to your iTunes library...

None of this is true! You can play FLAC on your iPod with RockBox
Rockbox is an open source software project that has support for codecs such as FLAC and Ogg Vorbis and interfaces users can configure. Please note that Rockbox builds are works in progress, many with daily updates so stability may vary.
Rockbox also allows a lot of tweaking such as controlling many preset and customizable equalizer options. For example it allows you to raise or lower bass and treble and lets you adjust the decibel level.
Installation
If you for some reason would like o uninstall this you can uninstall RockBox or using Rockbox's dual boot capability.

- Connect iPod to PC in order to enable disk mode using iTunes (make sure to connect via a USB port not a USB hub which can cause write errors)
- Download the Rockbox firmware for your player, the standard fonts package, and the Rockbox boolader which resides in an application clalled iPodPatcher. (All of these are available at the RockBox site)
- Installation, quick disconnect and reboot
