hi!

I'm very much a newbie who neds help.
I've been burning mp3cds for some time now, but each time I have to rename allt he songs(001, 002.........101 etc) to get them in the correct order. Takes ages to do it manually.
Surely there must be a programme that can sort this out?
Do you know about a good programme? It's perfectly alright if it's free.

Perhaps using a program such as cdex or eac you can tell it to write the track number and not just the name and artist as well. Ensure in the order of things you want written you tell it to write the track number first. OF course this is only a solution when you first rip the files and not when you are trying to fix them after words or if you aquire them from another source.

Both programs are free.

It would be nice to have a few more details. How are your files named before you fix them? Can you give us some complete examples? How do you want them to named? Do you tag (like id3 tags) your mp3s? What software are you using in this process? And when you make these mp3 cds, how do you listen to them? Just on your computer or do you have a hardware mp3 player?

Just curious... smile.gif

Maybe this will help.

I use Exact Audio Copy (EAC) to rip my CDs. This is a good free program that will rip the audio and then encode it / tag the encoded files if you want. Too many features to get into here, but you can specify how you want the files named. There are many other programs that will work well too.

For example, I have my files named:

Music \ Artist \ Year-Album \ Track # Title.mp3

The command line in EAC to name tracks this way is:
%A\%Y-%C\%N %T

EAC will also use this information to populate the tags for whatever file type you have.

Try MP3-Tag Studio. It is the best tool available for the very purpose of tagging and naming MP3 files. I've used many tools over the years but nothing comes close to MP3-Tag Studio's versatality and ease of use. By the way, it has a static ad window with the banners compiled INTO the software. That makes it look like ad-ware but in fact, it is freeware with an ad window. It is absolutely safe. Try it. You wouldn't want anything else.

Sorry I was a bit unclear abput what it is that I do. I use EAC APS when I rip the files and ID tags 1+2, but I have to remove them since my standalone DVD player won't play them otherwise. So I just want them to occur in the same order as they are on each album. (001, 002, 003, .......100)

Can I remove the tags with the program MP3tag-studio as well, or do I need another programme for that?
