Move from within foobar using the "move rename" command, and your playlists don't need to be manually updated.
First, I apologies for not answering to your post for so long, kanak.
Yes, the "move to" trick within foobar works but is not exactly what I'm looking for. There a situations, where files are moved to another path in the system. I store my media on an external drive and so the drive letter can change. It's easy to rescan the library but the playlists can't be updated. I've read a post describing to replace the drive letters in the playlist files with a hex editor. But that cannot be the solution, just a work around.
Am I the only one who likes to have a playlist structured by tags without filenames and path?
Instead of
1. c:/media/mymusic/artist1/album4/song7.mp3
2. c:/media/mymusic/artist2/album5/song8.mp3
3. c:/media/mymusic/artist3/album6/song9.mp3
...
it should be
1. artist1 - album4 - title7
2. artist2 - album5 - title8
3. artist3 - album6 - title9
...
Optional:
a) When the tags are changed within foobar, the playlist could be modified automatically.
b) The number of tags used could be varied (for identification), i.e. only "artist1 - title7" or if necessary "artist1 - album4 - title7 - date - tracknumer", etc.
c) a conversion tool between standard playlist and tag-related playlist (if option a doesn't work)

How about autoplaylists?
yes, where it is possible, this is the best solution. But I also have playlists with individual mixed songs. As far as I know no autoplaylist is possible here since there is no common filter pattern.

Save your playlists to your music directory. Then they will have relative paths in them

Ok, seems that is the best workaround for me now. I just hoped there is a way not bother with filenames anymore since all data we need are already in the media library.
Perhabs the developers or a resourceful plugin programmer will provide us with a solution in the future. Something like the excellent dbsearch addon.
