Full Version: anyone using flac --sector-align?

is anyone using the --sector-align option of flac, or flac frontend, or shntool? that option actually complicates the flac code a lot and I would like to take it out if possible. it really belongs in a higher level encoding or burning tool.

if you are using it, let me know which tool you use it with and if it's with wave, aiff, or raw files.

I used it, once, on a non-Win32 machine, quite the while ago. I don't remember exactly what the situation was why it was necessary.

i use it, but i usually use shntool instead. a few times a week, i use it to help trackmark live recordings that i edit.

only reason is that i was/am used to using multi frontend instead of flac frontend, and i couldn't figure out how to use the sector align function in multi frontend for batches of files, it simply padded each file individually with silence.

so even though ideally i'd like flac to be able to do it in one step, i have no issues with it being removed from flac and for shntool to be used instead. that's my current method anyway.

edit - i use with wav or flac files only.

It could be easily implemented even with a shell script, I'd say it's not absolutely essential. How about a poll?

I use it often after track's edition (removing silence, editing). I use it with wave. This is very useful function for me.

I found out from the author of shntool that it does not use flac's option to do alignment. so now I feel better about getting rid of it since there is an alternative. it really belongs outside of flac and is a constant source of complexity and bugs, so I'm going to deprecate it in 1.2.2, and after 1.2.2 it may not be available anymore.
