Hi All.

I just got a new Ipod and I am loving it, but I have a problem.

I have hundreds upon hundreds of cd's and to put one cd at a time into the computer and import them so I can put them into my ipod is taking way too long. I don't have a lot of time to sit in front of the computer and babysit the cd tray and I would like to have my Ipod filled up so I can start enjoying my entire music collection.

Is there a way to do it quicker other than buying some expensive piece of hardware, or is there a service out there that can do it for me? Any recommendations will be appreciated.

Thanks.

Joe

The best possibility to get this job done is a trustworthy aquaintance who'd like to earn a few bucks. Especially notoriously clammy scholars are easily to convince by fawning with a banknote in front of them. I'm speaking of my own experiences here, while currently studying electronics & information technology I often fix and optimize others' computers for a small prize.

the fastest option without installing anything is to set up iTunes to "Import CD and Eject", and absentmindedly keep feeding CDs to your computer until it eats them all.

the fastest option if you're willing to install software is to:
* install MacPorts
* install cdparanoia and lame under MacPorts ('sudo port install cdparanoia', 'sudo port install lame')
* install Cretin CD Reencoder
* rip CDs with 'cretin -c cfg.repeat 1 -c cfg.ejectcmd "drutil eject" -c cfg.enc lame -c encs.lame.flags -V0'.

This will allow you to rip CDs faster than iTunes, encode better mp3s than iTunes, and let the encoding continue when you are not at the computer. When you're done, drag the directory of mp3s (~/cretin/encs/lame, by default) into iTunes.
