Full Version: How can I convert my .flac collection to .mp3 in batch?

(I'm using Windows XP.)

Each disc in my collection has 1 .flac file for the entire disc and 1 .cue file.

Is there any way to split and convert them in batch mode so that I end up with one .mp3 file per song tagged with the information taken from the .cue sheet?

This is simple to do one at a time with Foobar, but I want an unattended process so I can let it run for a few days.

Thanks for any suggestions!

Ye and they shall call it foobar2000...

May take a little while to get used to using it but once you get the converter setup the way you want it, it is THE tool to use for a job like this.

Restrict incoming file types to *.cue in foobar's settings, and just add your entire music folder and it should load up all your albums. Then just select every track (Control + A) and have the Converter do its thing.

Thanks guys. That seems to work just fine. Restricting the files to *.cue did the trick. I also changed the output file format to %tracknumber% otherwise it uses the playlist number.

I've never done large-scale converting with F2K. Is there a limit on the number of tracks in the playlist?

If you want to do it in batch mode, there is a great tool from Nyaochi, CueProc

As much as you can add to it a.k.a. No there is not a limit.

Why not use %album artist%, %album%, %title%, and %artist% to properly file your MP3s?

These files will be burned to CDR for listening in my car. I've had trouble with other car stereos when the file name is too long.

It's possible your burning application doesn't handle Joliet filename restrictions properly.

If you solely use tracknumber surely you will end up with all albums being mixed, with all track ones playing first, then all track twos...

If this is the case I would either use the playlist index, or if possible:

%album artist%\%album%\%tracknumber%

or

%album artist% - %album% - %tracknumber%

Thankfully my car stereo (Sony) can deal with my naming scheme of

%album artist%\%album%\%tracknumber% - %title

I put the files for each album in a subdirectory (only 1 deep off the root) so they won't get mixed up. I prefix each subdirectory with 01, 02, etc so they'll play in that order. One of my old car stereos had the ability to go directly to each album by hitting the appropriate number key.

These are good suggestions, thanks!
