Hi, been a while since ive posted so got a few questions for the experts smile.gif

at the moment im ripping to .WV image files with .cue sheet files for each image (and have also embedded the cue into the image tag)...

reading the 'Create a long-term archive' article, it says 'with gapless disks you must rip as a single file and add a CUE to mark track starting positons', and 'with gapfull cd's its more likely better off with separate files'.

is there any disadvantage to ripping 'gapfull' cds, to image files - as long as u create a cue file?

in the 'Create a lossless back-up with EAC and FLAC' article, it says to tick the 'Replaygain' option under FLAC Frontend - is that necessary as the file is lossless? isnt replaygain for mp3s?

is there a way to embed cuesheets in .flac images like i can with wavpack?? cant seem to find the string to do this if it exists!

in the 'EAC and FLAC' article is says about .flac.flac files being created, is this still a problem with the latest version of EAC as i dont get this problem, does anyone know what circumstances would cause this problem to still occur?

thanks for any replies! biggrin.gif

Replaygain can be for any music files. You shouldn't get any clipping with lossless files (at least no more than was already on the CD), but different tracks / albums may still have different perceived loudnesses. Replaygain helps with that.

Creating a single image for CDs with gaps is fine.

I've successfully embedded cuesheets into FLAC, WavPack, and Monkey's Audio images with foobar2000 so I know it can be done. Only one I know of a way to do it by commandline is WavPack though. FLAC has a commandline for it but it only copies the trackpoints (someone feel free to correct me if I'm incorrect) but with WavPack it copies it completely into an APEv2 tag.

But the answer to your question is yes cuesheets can be embedded into FLAC files. I create single image + embedded cue WavPack files for all the discs I rip FWIW. I personally think it's easier to manage, but whatever way you do it is up to you.

About ReplayGain, on lossless files it's just convenient so you never have to adjust your music volume. A lossless file won't clip any more than the source.

I think they fixed the .flac.flac and .wv.wv problem in EAC in the current prebetas. Again feel free to correct me if I'm wrong.
