I have a feature request for the Facet component:

Add another action to choose from in the Facets preferences, "select in current playlist". If items in the Facet view have corresponding tracks in the current playlist, then selecting those items will also select and focus the tracks in the playlist Well, there's the option "Playlist interaction->Select added items", it would be nice when the action "None" would select the corresponding tracks in the current playlist, when this option is set, so there would be no need for a new action.

This can be used for very quickly selecting specific tracks in any playlist. For now I use "Playlist search" (foo_dbsearch?) for doing that, but although Facet's search isn't faster it's somehow more comfortable to use and actually I also very often would prefer choosing from a list (of artists) than an using an intereactive search to get to the tracks I need.

This would interfere in situations where a user has deliberately selected a set of tracks in the playlist to carry out a specific action, like modifying tags. Such a behaviour would be unpredictable and error-prone to the extent where I can imagine that people would eventually report it as a bug.

Please let's not try to hack purposes into a component which it wasn't made for.

Just start a new thread describing your current situation, and let a developer come up with an appropriate solution.

Hm, I see. What about "focus in current playlist"? No new selection (that can be done by the user himself if he needs to).

It would jump to the first tracks (just like the Playlist search does).

The thing is, I don't like typing. And with Facets there's now an easy accessible/usable list of all artists/albums/etc at my fingertips... tongue.gif

If pressing a single key (combination) is acceptable for you (tongue.gif), you can install foo_utils and bind a keyboard shortcut to its "Edit/Highlight in Playlist" context menu command.

"Highlight in Playlist" is exactly what I would need, but binding a hotkey leads to problems when typing... wink.gif

Adding this as an action to the Facets (for Select/Double-Click/Middle Button). That would be it. crying.gif If someone doesn't like it, that his selection gets changed this way then he mustn't configure Facets to use this action... wink.gif

Hm, I did the following test. Selected some tracks in a playlist, openend the properties window, selected an unrelated item in the Facets view, right-clicked "Edit->Highlight in Playlist", then changed a tag field in the properties window and pressed OK.

The result was that the tag field was written to the initially selected tracks and not to the tracks highlighted from the Facets view. So I don't see a problem with that. unsure.gif
