Does anyone know which tagging standard is the most widely used! It would be greate if someone could list the standard and the audio types it supports ph34r.gif
Jan S.
ID3v1(.1): MP3
ID3v2: MP3
Lyrics3: MP3

APE2: MPC (could just as well be used for mp3 as id3 tags but it is not widely supported to do so)

vorbis comments: Ogg Vorbis.

Thanks for your help Jan S.

What about all them other formats? lossy and lossless!
Jan S.
I don't think all format has a tagging solution.

I don't know if Monkey's audio uses ape1 or ape2 but one of those.
And flac uses vorbis comments.

Case's TAG program tag use all these tagging formats exept id3v2. It can only read those.

HMMM huh.gif

So, when is someone going to make a tagging solution which is compatible with all audio formats?

And, when is someone going to make a ReplayGain solution which is compatible with all audio formats?
Jan S.
The problem is not so much making a solution that is compatible with all formats.

Fx. you can just as well use ape2 tags with mp3 and you can set the replaygain tags in the ape2-tags. But only foobar AFAIK supports this so it is not widely used and mp3gain does not even support adding the replaygain to the ape2 yet (it will).

Vorbis made vorbis comments for their container so that's what they use and flac decided to use the ogg vorbis container too.

Ape tags were originally made for monkey's audio and developed further by Frank Klemm AFAIK.

There's no problem in having two systems like ape2 and vorbis comments but id3v2 is very bad from a developers point of view.
That's why people are trying to replace it with ape2-tags instead but the problem is that so few players support it and that the average joe doesn't care and just uses id3v2-tags; that's why it's so hard to get rip of and get supported.
