Full Version: How do I use replaygain?

I am a little confused as to how to use replaygain to adjust the gain of MPC files. I use MP3 gain regularly so I know the concept.
The command reference given by typing "replaygain -h" is pretty brief.

For example, what would I type to determine the max no-clipping gain of a directory of MPC files and / or apply the gain to the files?

Thanks!

replaygain --auto

With mpc replaygain you don't have to set a level before you calculate the replaygain.

It's best to put replaygain.exe in c:\windows\system32 so you can call it from everywhere you are in your system. Open a command prompt and navigate to the directory where your mpc files are you want to replaygain.

type: replaygain --auto *.mpc

wait for replaygain to finish and close the command prompt.

If you use winamp you can set the replaygain playback level in the plugin (the slider with the k-values under it), if you use foobar your files will be played at reference level (89db).

If you like a frontend for replaygain you can try Speek's mpc batch encoder.

Thanks for the info, but what does "--auto" do? Does it set the gain of all files in the directory so they have the same apparant sound?

What if I want to apply the max no-clip gain? Is there a command for that?

Also, I tried typing replaygain --auto *.mpc and I got the error message: "Can't decode filename.mpc"

I am using replaygain .84 and mppenc 1.14
with the commang-line: --standard --xlevel

Am I doing something wrong?

Hey, I had the same problem.

You have to have mppdec.exe in the path or the same directory.

Later.

No, not a command as such. If you set the Winamp plugin to "ReplayGain off | ClipProtect title/album based" though, you'll have what is effectively the maximum noclip gain.
