Full Version: Mp3gain - How do I know 'Undo Gain Changes' has worked

I have some mp3s with ape2 tags in - mp3gain_minmax and also mp3gain_undo.
I want to delete these tags, but first want to make sure I have undone the mp3gain changes made to the file itself. I will just be using RG tags in future

I therefore loaded the mp3s into mp3gain gui and ran Undo Gain Changes. I have not yet deleted the tags. How can I tell that the gains have been undone, before I delete the APE tags. There does not seem to be any way to view the mp3gain adjustments in the file itself either before or afterwards.

If I run Undo Gain Changes again it still runs - ie it does not give me a message saying something like "there are no mp3gain changes to undo".

Also if I reload the file into mp3gain all the columns are still populated. I was expecting them to have cleared if I ran the Undo feature. Interestingly when I first loaded the mp3's in some were in red text and some black - they are all red now!

Thx

Display the replaygain tags with your favorite tag editor. If the replaygain undo tag is zero, and the track and album gain tags are non-zero, then the undo was done correctly.

There is a case where if the track didn't need any gain adjustments in the first place, then all tags will be zero.

It is normal for MP3GainGui to display results for an 'undone" file. It will not display results if the tags were removed.

Hope that helps...

Brilliant - thanks Dave. I have now got rid of all the mp3gain entries and deleted the APE tags. There were a few which had APE tags but no mp3gain_undo tag, so I guess there is nothing I can do about those and I deleted the APE tag anyway!
