Does this unit stack up against, let's say an Audiophile 24/96 or Terratec EWX 24/96, in terms of audio quality? The SNR should be -91dB A-weighted (AudioTron site), but the RCA output is said to be weak. But the unit seems to be really good, and Turtle Beach listens to its customers (Ogg support should be on its way!).

For those who don't know [yet], the AudioTron is a Stereo MP3 Component that accesses your LAN through Ethernet or HPNA 2 (no internal storage - no space constraints). 24bit DAC, up to 16bit/44.1kHz playback. Plays MP3, WMA, WAV: http://www.audiotron.net/ (nevermind the Flash intro)

Thinking of buying one myself. I'd like to hear comments about this device.

If you take the digital output (TOSlink) then it sounds very good indeed. The analogue output is not so good. The headphone output is not so good either. I run the digital input into an Audio Alchemy DAC that I picked up on Ebay and from there into my amp - excellent quality. For those with a digital input on their amp then no need for an external DAC.

From what I read on the newsgroups I didn't thing there had been any firm promises to implement Ogg support.

It handles MP3's very nicely up to 320k, I hear reports of some stuttering when playing straight wav's and lately there has been some comments regarding 'chirping' with WMA produced with Window Media Player 9.

You should read through the newsgroup for more comments, both good and bad - http://maillist.voyetra.com/audiotron.html. Or go to their board at http://pub90.ezboard.com/bturtlebeach

I have had my for nearly 2 years and I am quite happy with it. Apparently (rumours from CES) there will some new models released in the next 6 months or so.
