Full Version: [request] proper %list_index% behaviour

I like foobar as a great and powerfull instrument in handling my music library, but the strange implementation of the %list_index% variable is a daily annoyance to me. With every new beta I look into the file operations dialog to test the %list_index% behaviour but up until now to no avail.

So here's the problem once more:

When copy, rename or move files the %list_index% variable behaves as an alfabetical_file_list_index variable. ie since in the file operations dialog the files are always listed alfabeticaly you can never reorder the files to match the order in the playlist by using the value of te %list_index% variable as a prefix in the name of the music files. (See my earlier topic for another example: http://www.hydrogenaudio.org/forums/index....showtopic=56220)

There's a work around in selecting all(!) files in a playlist and use the masstagger to write the %list_index% value in a unused tag and next use the file operations dialog to rename files with the value of this tag in the name of the file.

Another (for me prefered) workaround is to use the "Send to device" plugin with the %list_index% variable since this plug-in handles the files in the order as they are used in the active playlist. The problem is that in the case you just want to rename your files you first have to create the files with a new name, than locate, select en delete your old files and next move the newly created files with their new name to the old location. The masstagger workaround brings another %list_index% problem to light.

If I select a few files in a list for example numbers 3, 5 and 7. the %list_index% values generated are 1, 2 and 3! I would expect the values to be the indexnumber in the list: 3, 5 and 7!

So the bottom line is: %list_index% behaves as a simple sequential counter in whatever bunch of music files you have selected and if you use the file operations dialog %list_index% follows the albetical order of the filelist.

So i hope someone is able to reprogram the %list_index% behaviour in:
1: handle file operations in the order of the playlist, or
2: display the filelist in the order of the playlist, and
3: really use the value of the position in the playlist!

I posted the same request a few times:

in foo_utils thread,
shortly before in extra thread
and when 0.9.2 beta came out.

The developers don't seem to be interested in implementing such a feature because foo_sendtodevice can do almost the same and there don't seem to be to many people around that need such a feature.
