I'm applying replaygain using foobars 'scan as albums by tags'. Is it normal that album gain is different for every track on various artist albums?

All my albums are in their own directories, properly tagged (id3v1.1 and 2.3).

Two solutions:

(1) Set the Album Artist tag to "Various Artists".

(2) Add the "Scan Selection As Albums (by directories)" command to the context menu and use this instead.

Thanks a lot.

For these I just do Scan Selection as Single Album and that makes an 'album' out of whatever you have selected and tags it as such.

hushypushy: The problem with that is that all albums would then have the same album gain, wouldn't they?

Anyway, I'm now adding the 'Album Artist' tag for VA albums, is there a quick way to check that all albums have album gain applied?

Edit: Also, is there a way of scanning albums to see which one are by various artists?

You can use my Facets component for this purpose.

1. Set the first Facet to Album.
2. Set the second Facet to Artist (make sure to set the pattern to [%artist%] instead of [%<album artist>%] in the Preferences).
3. Add an "Artists" column to the Album Facet, available in the Statistics submenu.
4. Sort by the Artists column in descending order by clicking on the column header twice.
5. Now you can easily select all albums with more than one artist.

Enter %replaygain_album_gain% MISSING into the Facets search box to display all albums without album gain information.

You can do the same in the Album List's Filter field.

Thanks again Frank, I'll give it a go.
