Dolby Labs is to acquire Coding Technologies for "approximately $250 million" according to BusinessWire.
Dolby has its own code for aac encoder which is used in Apple applications. After acquiring CT they could release even better aac encoder. Seems, we'll have two highly competing aac encoders in the nearest future - from Nero and Dolby. At the moment both products have state of the art performance already. AAC format is definitely lucky.

That would definitely be good news for those hoping for HE-AAC in Apple's products!
The AAC-LC layer provided with CT's HE-AAC encoders is from FhG. It's very likely that they have been acquired because of the SBR part, and obviously its associated IP.
