I just upgraded to Nero 8 and when I open my old compilations from Nero 5, all the track numbers have asterisks next to them - what does this mean?

Hi,

I've just found the following document from Nero:

Nero split feature

Is it possible that you have some markers that allows you to jump to a segment inside the mentioned tracks?

Nero's become too busy with AAC, AVC, MP4, etc and don't even remember/care how the main burning program works.

Hi Antonski,

I know this document.
After quite long time browsing internet I found it.
I checked my Nero session, but no split function was used.
It's strange.

Thanks all

Normally this indeed has to do with setting some track splits. It could be that compilations from version 5 are not fully supported anymore. It will get checked.

Yeah, we're sorry for trying to help. Nero is not a one man company and not everyone knows everything about all our products.

Asterisk only appears when a track is split.

miram: Can you please provide more information about files that you added to the compilation?
audiodrome: What is the exact version of Nero 5 that you used?

Could it be that your files have changed in length? Or, if you're using MP3 files, perhaps the most recent version of Nero can now more accurately report length of MPEG streams (resulting in slightly different times)?

I remember seeing an asterisk before. Now, I created a compilation and then replaced a file with another of different length. The old (shorter) length was still remembered and appeared as index points in properties.

Testing and using Version 6.6.0.5

Thanks muaddib, j7n for trying help,

Maybe j7n is close to truth.
I was making audio CD with many track and than I needed to make some edits on some tracks in external editor.
I was changing especially length of tracks.
Yes ... and Asterisks appears after I reopen session.. and probably just at the edited tracks.
I thought that Nero will uploading again files to compilation and refresh information about them..
But maybe I am wrong..
Can you muabdib, j7n or someone els explain please how is works???

Thanks Miram

PS:This session I made with my previous version Nero 6.6.?.?
But the asterisks remain in Nero 8 too (after upgrade)
Files was common Wave files.

I thought that Nero will uploading again files to compilation and refresh information about them..

When you first add an audio file Nero selects all of it for inclusion (let's say 00:00:00.00-00:02:35.00). This selected range is saved and continued to use later, even if the total length of that sound file has changed. When Nero is told to refresh the compilation it will get the new length (let's say 00:00:00.00-00:02:35.05). If both ranges don't match an asterisk will appear.

I don't know if the last 5 frames in this example will actually be written and appear as another marker, never used splitting in Nero.

It is not possible to trim and install Nero 7 just for checking how Audio CD creation works. I assume it's even worse with Nero 8.
muaddib
Change of a file length outside of Nero Burning ROM after compilation is created is currently not handled correctly and will be fixed in some of next Nero 8 releases. I will post here when it is fixed.
Thanks to everybody helping us to discover this problem.

P.S. Asterisk would also appear in two additional cases: when cross fading is enabled or when a track is shorter than 2s or 4s (depending on the position in an audio cd).

Thanks you all for replies,

Now I understand what's happen..
When I click properties on tracks with asterisks all of them had set end of track differently then the real end of track...
After I repaired it manually.. click apply.. everything is ok now.. asterisks disappears.

Miram

PS: Anyway.. It is a bug or common intended behavior???
