Hello.
Just a question from Italy:
What happens if I encode my files using
"--alt-preset standard --strictly-enforce-ISO" ?
I know there will be an increase of bitrate, but what about the music quality ?
Will it be the same as using only " --alt-preset standard" ?
Could be useful this setting on hardware decoders, like the ones into car-audio equipments ?
Thanks !!!

Exactly this. Quality should be about the same as when encoding with --alt-preset standard only.

Use ONLY if you are problem with your hardware decoder !
* --strictly-enforce-ISO strict ISO compliance
With this option, LAME will enforce the 7680 bit limitation on total frame size.
This results in many wasted bits for high bitrate encodings but will ensure strict ISO compatibility. This compatibility might be important for hardware players.

Ok, thanks !!!
But what about pure music quality ?

I believe that it is possible some frames quality will be decreased because they overflow the bit limitation...
I'm not completely sure. Is it a limitation in the fact that all frames must be that high or can be no higher than? Its possible it may be must be that high because of the bitrate increase. IF this is the case then quality will not be lowered but possibly higher, probably no audible difference just a wasting of bits.

Ehi Dibrom !
Can you spend a word about this ???
Thanks !

You can use it if you want.
As vbr is not relying very much on bit reservoir, it's likely to no be different at all.
Then, if it's very likely to make no different at all, why isn't this "ISO compatibility" option the default? It can save much trouble.

Because the strict ISO interpretation seems strange.
Moreover, if a player is able to play 32kHz files, he should not have any problem with this relaxed limitation.
So far no one encountered a player where this switch would solve a potential problem.
Ah ha..hmm well if that's the case it's really not important
