Everytime I copy a .cda file from one of my cd's I get a 1kb file that I can't play. I am trying to assemble an album from different CD's and I can't seem to copy the file so it will play by itself.

You want to 'rip' the audio data. Try Exact Audio Copy which is a well-recommended program:

The alternative CDFS driver is for Windows 98 only and when installed provides several downconverted (22050, 11025, mono) formats that might not even work flawlessy and only create confusion.
