Full Version: Recover L/R Balance on Audio Files

Hi,

I need to rip a tape to audio files, but it's an old one and the left channel is way out of balance compared to the right one (i.e. it's at a much lower level).

How can I restore a correct balance between the channels with an audio editing software like Audition or Audacity? Or is there some other tool that will normalize both channels independently?

Thanks!

What you would have to do I think is open each channel as a seperate mono file in Sound Forge or something. Get the reference RMS level of one of them and normalise the other one to that RMS level.

Goldwave allows changing the level of each channel separately.

All audio editing tools enable you to edit each channel independently if you want to. Audition has several tools which allows you to manipulate stereo field. Pan/Expand, Stereo Field Rotate, Stereo Expander and Binaural Auto-Panner.
But you can get your job done just with amplifying one channel and maybe some EQ.

OK, thank you all. I'll try all this.
