Full Version: MPC Tags & Playlists - any docs?

Summary

Have MPPENC working very well and using FLAC to compress the WAV files after creating MPCs. The area of `Tags' and especially `Playlists' needs some attention here.. and is preventing full-scale usage/encoding until the `Tags' can be populated accurately without a lot of verification, rework, and editing.

APE Tags

Is this the preferred Tag convention? Have D:\Musepack in the PATH field so the system knows where to find the `subroutines'.

Playlists

Have used `Tag frontend' for editing/confirming Tags.. and for playlists as well. The following is a Playlist generated by `Tag frontend' for Sade (pronounced Shar-Day), Diamond Life. What format is this? When it is dropped on Winamp2.. it's a mess.

#EXTM3U
#EXTART:Sade
#EXTALB:Diamond Life
#EXTINF:298,Sade - Smooth Operator
01 - Smooth Operator.mpc
#EXTINF:239,Sade - Your Love is King
02 - Your Love is King.mpc
#EXTINF:360,Sade - Hang on to Your Love
03 - Hang on to Your Love.mpc
#EXTINF:277,Sade - Frankies First Affair
04 - Frankies First Affair.mpc
#EXTINF:207,Sade - When Am I Going to Make a Living
05 - When Am I Going to Make a Living.mpc
#EXTINF:379,Sade - Cherry Pie
06 - Cherry Pie.mpc
#EXTINF:321,Sade - Sally
07 - Sally.mpc
#EXTINF:283,Sade - I Will Be Your Friend
08 - I Will Be Your Friend.mpc
#EXTINF:328,Sade - Why Can't We Live Together
09 - Why Can't We Live Together.mpc

Please advise on some DOCS for straightforward HOWTO's on Tag and Playlist usage in the MPC environment.

Cheers..!!

You mean, you have the files without tags, and would like to add tags based on the information contained in the file/directory names? That's pretty easy with Tag. I'd still recommend you get a proper frontend like Tagger first, though.

Just add your album folder with subdirectories, check the "Auto" and "Test Mode" boxes (and also perhaps "Ignore leading zeros at track number" in the "Numbering" field, I personally hate it to have zeros at the beginning of track numbers in the tags), and click Go. If it fills in the fields correctly, then you can switch off Test Mode.

If it doesn't work, you can enter a scheme manually - disable "Auto", check "Custom" and enter the scheme convention in the field. The frontend will show you the identifiers to be used when you hold the mouse over the field. (Example: If the scheme used is "Artist - [Year] - Album\Artist - TrackNo - Title", you will have to enter A - [Y] - L\A - N - T.)

If I misunderstood you, forget all that ramble.

Playlists generated by Tag should work perfectly in Winamp. Did you move the playlist to a different folder before you dropped it on Winamp?

I don't know of any howtos on tagging and music library organisation... I've been wanting to write something like that with my mate for my German audio website (and translate it afterwards) for some time, but we haven't got around to it yet.
