Full Version: Upgraded to V9.4.5 and now I have no sound

I just upgraded my 2 computers (Dell Dimension 8400, WindowsXP PRO) but they have different sound cards and motherboards.

1 Computer works fine with FOOBAR V9.4.5, the other does not seem to play when I hit the play button and the progress bar of the song does not move. I did a clean install of V9.4.5 and then overlayed the components folder. The song info does appear as well as the visualizations The elapsed time of the song stays at 0. I tried removing foo_dsp_fsurround.dll and said NO to keep the settings but still no sound (and the player does not appear to be playing the song). I did overlay the components folder from the working computer over the non working computer and had no luck either. I put the foo_dsp_fsurround.dll back into the components folder and tried to move the progress bar I get the following dump:

Can anybody point me in the right direction ? The setup I believe is currently the same on the machine where Foobar V9.4.5 works fine. I can play music via Windows Media Player which can be heard over the speakers on the computer where Foobar is NOT working. Thanks in advance !

What is a Codex bos and where do i find one ? Everything worked fine until i upgraded from V9.4.2 to V9.4.5.

One possibility for the output device is the name of your soundcard. If you change your soundcard you will have no valid entry for it in your preferences. But I don't know, if a missing output device crashes foobar. Anyway, look in your preferences, if there is set the correct output device.

I checked my sounds in Control Panel. I tried it with my sound card as well as going thru Total Recorder (software which captures streaming audio). No Luck. I have a 2nd machine which I upgraded to V9.4.5 which uses Total Recorder and works fine altho the 2 machines have different soundcards.

Its strange that V9.4.2 worked fine.

Any other suggestions ? I tried to turn off the DSP by removing from components folder (and said not to keep the current settings when launched)but no luck.

Sorry about the CODEX BOX....I haven't posted much but I am glad I made someone laugh today !

I got it ! I had no output device defined under playback within FOOBAR preferences. Its strange, when I upgraded my other computer the field must have been already populated !

I probably have alot of catching up to do. I now need to remember how to use and configure the DSP settings (again) as well as get tagging down and MOOsic up.

Thanks for your help.....Its been over 6 months since I played around with FOOBAR !

File> Preferences> Playback> Output> "Output Device"

This field tells foobar what device to output the sound to. If you specify a device such as a soundcard and then you change your soundcard or move foobar to a machine that has a different soundcard, foobar will no longer know where to output the sound. I suggest setting this option to "Primary Sound Driver" unless you have a specific reason not to. This way foobar will always use the default windows sound device even if you change sound cards or move to another computer.
