Hi Ive read this article
http://gabriel.mp3-tech.org/mp3infotag.html
but I can't clarify whether a LAME header only appears after a XING Header or whether it can exist without it.

Im trying to update my library to detect the encoder, Im aware that the Lame header is only part of the solution
but it is a start.

thanks paul

To my understanding a LAME header is an extended Xing header. Both actually resemble an MPEG frame with the header data in ancillary padding space.

That makes sense to me, what I dont undestand from the above doc is that the Lame 3.88 shows the Lame Header as being 20 bytes long, but then the detailed breakdown of the byte sin a lame header is 36 bytes, what is the guy trying to say ?
