Apologies if I am posting this in the wrong place. I haven't used FooBar much in about a year and its taking me some time to catch up on things I wanted to do before but also hopefully take advantage of new featues I have even discovered yet.

I did some searching and checked the guides but can't figure out how to do the following:

I have alot of live muisic which has no album art but usually has a .txt file with information about the song tracks (possibly composed of multiple pages). I'd like to be able to see the .txt file in a lyrics panel or now playing or track info mod or album art type panel. The first part of the file name could be anything (the suffix will always be .txt). Many of my music files are not tagged and do often do not have meaningful names. I will often have a folder of a live show with several tracks where I would like to show the same *.txt file.

The folks in the general forum sent me here where I moved foo_UIE_lyrics.dll (7.z) into my components folder and then added the lyrics panel. When I play a song I just got the artist, album and song info which I'm guessing is coming from the music file.

What do I need to do to show the text file in the folder ?

I appreciate any pointers anyone can provide.

There are no components that can do what you need in your current situation.

You could use foo_uie_lyrics, but you need to have some sort of formula to match the external file to the song.

I don't mean to sound like a dick, but I don't understand how people like yourself can assume something could "just work" if your files aren't properly tagged, or at least have some sort of predictive filename or folder structure.

Because of the advanced titelformatting, foobar can do just about anything when conditions are predictable. If things aren't predictable, then you need to do some manual work to make them so.
So, it sounds like you have some work to do.

How do you go about accomplishing this, easily?
  • I would start with properly tagging my music files (with either foo_freedb2 or foo_discogs).
  • Then I change all my file names based on something predictive using the tag data (using foo_fileops included in the 0.9.5 betas).
  • Then I would restructure my folder structure to something predictive using tag data (again using foo_fileops).
  • Then I would go through and rename my .txt files to something predictive.
  • Then things would be ready to use foo_uie_lyrics, and my music folder would not be a mess anymore.
Good luck.

Thanks for the advice. When I started converted live music I did not have a standard format. I did go to a more standard format of tagging artists and the name of the show (organized by artist and date within my music directory). I have a terabyte of mp3 of which about 1/3 have no tags. Probably only 20% have the names of the songs filled in which is why I was hoping to display the text file. Sounds like I have quite abit of work to do. I wish I thought out how to structure my collection before I started altho its great Foobar can display the music library by directory structure which does work well in my situation
