I have some LAME 3.90 --alt-preset-extreme stuff that Mr. Questionman confirms, but in foobar2000 it says 'V2', which IIRC corresponds to --alt-preset-standard. Anyone know why?

according to preset.htm bundle up with lame
--preset standard
This preset should generally be transparent to most people on most music and is already quite high in quality.
The resulting bitrate should be in the 170-210kbps range, according to music complexity.
--preset extreme
If you have extremely good hearing and similar equipment, this preset will provide slightly higher quality than the "standard" mode.
The resulting bitrate should be in the 200-240kbps range, according to music complexity.
foobar200 recognize V2 because in foobar2000 converter setting for mp3
~190kbps(*), V2
maybe foobar2k recognize that bitrate around 190kbps is V2 and near 240kbps is V0
that was my opinion...
