Hi everyone
This is my first post on the foobar forum and I am very new to it so these are probably simple questions.

I am having trouble with the library autoscan facility in the latest foobar beta 0.9.5. Could someone explain how the library gets automatically refreshed in 0.9.5. Mine does not work and I keep having to use Rescan Media Library on the menu to update my library even though I have the root directory set under preferences; media library.

Also I am using facets and when I rescan, the 'facets selection' playlist shows the correct number of tracks but I also have seperate Artist, Album and Tracks facet windows open (like iTunes). The tracks window total does not update - the first item says All and then a number in brackets but this is not showing the correct number of tracks. Is this a bug or am I doing something wrong.

Thx
G

What's that?

foobar2000 does not automatically keep track of changes in these folders.

There is no predefined "tracks" column.

If you for example added one with the %title% pattern, tracks with the same title are grouped and thus counted as one item in a facet. The number displayed in the summary item at the top can thus be lower than the actual number of tracks. Try to add the "Tracks" statistics column and sort by it to see if there are any items which contain more than one track. Next to the "All" item, you should also see the correct number of tracks in the "Tracks" column.

If that doesn't explain it, please illustrate your problem with some screenshots.

Hi,
Thanks for the response, I am clearly misunderstanding something here. In the 0.9.5 change log it says this:

"Updates automatically with Media Library content changes (“Refresh” command no longer needed)"

On the second point, I have now added the tracks statistic column and that does have the correct number. Thanks.
Can I turn of the figure that displays in brackets after "All" or is there some other way of updating that as well.

Thx

This only refers to the updated album list component.

In earlier versions, you had to manually refresh the album list when media library content changed.

This manual refresh after you for example modify tags or rename files inside of foobar2000 is not necessary anymore. However, if you make changes to your music folders with an external application, you still have to manually rescan the media library. After that rescan, the album list automatically updates itself. Facets does the same, by the way.

No, there is no way to turn it off. And regarding the "updating" part, I think you entirely missed my point: the displayed figure is not incorrect. If you have two or more tracks with the same title, they are counted as one item. To illustrate it:

CODE
Title (%title%) | Tracks
----------------+--------
All (3 titles)  |      6
Title A         |      3
Title B         |      1
Title C         |      2

thanks for that. ive been rescanning my whole media library instead of just updating tags to get it in there

I use facets to display my albums based on folder structure. 99% of the time I use the "All" option to have all tracks in the my playlist. However, if I rescan the library, facets updates, but it doesn't update the playlist itself. Is there a way for facets to automatically add the new items to the facets "All" playlist?

Any solution to this yet?

but it doesn't update the playlist itself.

Then try using autoplaylists, which are query-based and update corresponding to your media library content. They can be created either from any album list node or facet entry in the context menu using "Create autoplaylist".
