Is there any way to rename many sub-folders and their content (mp3s) according to the file tag without copying or moving?

When "rename" is selected in operations sub-folder renaming appears unavailable sad.gif

No - use the "Move" operation to rename parent folders.

If you for example want to switch to a folder structure like "artist / (year) album", set the destination folder to the root folder of your music collection, select the respective sub-folder name, set the file name pattern to "<leave as is>", and check the two options below.

I have a problem with the 9.5 betas.
I sometimes use the move funcion to move the content of several folders to a new location.
Every folder contains music, a folder.jpg file and a subfolder called "dati", whit files and subfolders.
In previous foobar version, using "move entire parent directories, preserve structure and file names" all was ok.
Now (fb2k 9.5 beta until 7) when I move something, the new folder is created, all the music and files in the original folder are moved.
BUT: the "dati" subfolder (of course with all the content) remain in the original position...
I select the "move entire source folder content" checkbox.
What's wrong?

Nobody?
It's a so dumb question?

Issues fixed since beta 7
  • Usability: File Operations with "Move/Copy Entire Source Folder Content" option checked doesn't move/copy sub-folders.

Hi,

do I understand this correctly, that it's possible to move the complete directory structure _only_ when I leave the audio file names the way they are?
I'd like to change the folder name, change the file names and move all other files from the old folder into the new one, all at the same time.
Did I miss something or is this not possible?

Sorry for the bump, but can no one answer this question?

It is possible:
1. Select "Move" as the operation
2. Set your desired pattern in the "File Name Pattern" box (this is where you specify how you want the folder names, and file names to be changed)
3. Check the "Move Entire Source Folder content"
4. Click Run

I hope i answered your question... if you could be more specific (provide a few examples), i'm sure i can provide a more detailed answer.

Thanks,

an example would be a few mp3 files with any file names contained in one folder of any name with some other files in the same folder.
All mp3s have the same %artist% tag and for the example's sake I want to have them end up in a folder named like the %artist% tag and the file name should be the %title% and all the non-mp3 files should be next to the mp3s after the renaming process.
So my pattern would be "%artist% / %title%"

I can't follow your advice, because I don't have the 'Move' option, only 'rename and move files', 'copy files', 'move entire parent directories, preserve structure and file names' and 'copy entire parent directories, preserve structure and file names'.
I guess I could go with the first option here but I DON'T have the essential "Move Entire Source Folder content" checkbox.
I am on v0.9.5 beta 7.

Hope this helps in helping me :-)

You are not using the new File Operations component at all, but the old and no longer included Masstagger.

Reinstall 0.9.5 beta, make sure to select the component during setup, and finally choose File Operations, Move To from the playlist's context menu.

And unless you need any other of its features (hint: several actions have been moved to the Properties dialog), you can remove the foo_masstag.dll file from your components folder.

Ah! This makes a lot of sense now, suddenly.
Stupid me!

Thank you, both of you!
