I am myself thinking of buying this Cd-rom as cd ripper, and to once for all have a good cd ripper drive.
I would be interested to know if anyone have tried it yet, or if there exist any reviews ???

EDIT: sorry, it should be "specially designed"

I wrote to Pioneer to get more information on the Pure Read technology. They did not give additional information, but they did tell me that the DVR-115D does NOT have the Pure Read technology. You need the Japanese drive, the DVR-A15J for this. They MAY be the same drive with different firmware, but I have not seen confirmation of crossflashing or proof that cross flashing would actually enable Pure Read.

What's the point of releasing different drives do various parts of the world? Other than keeping CDFreaks experts busy.

Eli, thank you very much for this information!
I was about to buy the DVR-115D but now I will definitely not do that. Will the Pure Read technology be included in the DVR-215D ?
Or do I really have to buy the Japanese version ?
Eli
Its only in the japanese version. Though some believe its the same hardware with different firmware and may be crossflashable...

What is the logic in that ?
Why would Pioneer disable some of the key functions for the non-Japaneses versions ?

My Japanese could be better I think heh..
the question is if they will ship internationally, of if I will be able to place an order from that site at all ?
Will be hard if I do not understand the language. (I guess babelfish could solve this problem though).

Well if anyone find any other place to buy it..please let me know thanks

they do have a phone number in the upper right hand corner of the page. You may get lucky and someone there may speak English.

Yes, but the question is, will the DVR-215 include the pure read function ?
And has there been any release date for this drive yet ?

I believe th e215 is the 115 with SATA interface, correct? So my guess would be no, it will not have pure-read.

Has there been any more info about this drive "DVR-A15J" yet ?
What is the meaning to buy the drive if I can't configure it with the correct offset ?
Does it cache, does it lead-in/lead-out ?

No one knows, though I doubt it has these audio features. See my other post and write to pioneer:
