Full Version: Normalizing volume for wma (Windows Media 10 Pro)

Hi,

I've gotten tons of wma files from someone. They are encoded with Windows Media 10 Pro. These are recordings I can't get in any other format, so I am stuck with them. They sound quite good though. Looks like maybe MS has gotten something right with their latest codec. However, these files have very different volume, so I wondered if it's possible to normalize the volume after the fact without having to encode them again? I have a program that will do this for mp3's, but it doesn't work with wma's.

Use replaygain. At least Winamp and foobar2000 support it.

(Unfortunately replaygain_album_peak and replaygain_track_peak are always 1.0000 (or less) for WMA files, so there's no way to avoid clipping...)

These are to be played on my Blackberry. I do not know of any players that supports Replaygain for this device. So I guess I'm out of luck on this one then?

You might look at the latest version of the WMP, rather than use a "power" eq, it uses a new equalization method when you turn on the "level eq" setting.

You might have to tell it to recalculate the whole library overnight, though.

Of course, you need to make sure your player understands the information included in the WMA stream for level balancing, too.
