Hi Guys,

Been searching for the root of this problem?

Now it seems to be getting outta hand.

What could possibly be causing this?

HA Forum search gives me causes like foobar2000 etc but I wanted to clarify this.

I have WMP11, iTunes, foorbar2000 and jetAudio.

Thanks,
McoreD

This is an issue with iTunes.

The ID3v2 standard is not exactly clear about whether each string value in the tag should end with an trailing $00 or not. foobar2000 writes a trailing $00 (which is not wrong!).

With Mp3tag I've decided to omit the trailing $00, mainly because I got sick of all the false bug reports, so you can re-save the tags using Mp3tag. Please make sure that you have the correct settings at 'Options > Tag > Mpeg'.

Thanks Florian! ISO-8859 works. May be I should adopt that feature too using TagLib.

ISO-8859 works.
ID3v2.3 with UTF-16 should work too (and it won't convert non-ISO-8859 characters to ?).

Woops. You are right. That's the best setting. I just finished doing a mass replace of "?" to <Empty>.

Thanks again Florian and really appreciate for solving the mystery.

The thing is however, how is it that without my intervention foobar2000 changes these tags. I just might have to turn off some setting. smile.gif

foobar2000 does not change tags on its own.

Either you're changing the tags by yourself or have some component (playcount, rating, ...) that updates the tags through foobar2000.

You can configure foobar2000 to write broken ID3v2 tags that works around stupid bugs in other software. Ie. compatibility mode. Look in advanced preferences.
