This is the only place I could think of to ask this, if there is a better website that this question would be suited for, please tell me.

I just bought a Sony STR-DG600 receiver off of eBay, and I'm having a small problem.
Every 5 seconds, a small tick sound is played through all the speakers connected to it.
This happens for every input, whether there is a signal or not.

I've tried switching speakers and speaker cables, moving everything electronic out of the way, and everything else i could think of.
I've played around with the settings on the receiver as well, but nothing changed.

I look this up online for 2 hours and found a few other people having this same problem from this receiver, and a few others as well, all of them resulted with them returning it and buying a H/K or something.

Some people have recommended a power filter, but I don't really feel like buying a $150 power strip.

Is there anything else I could do?

Thank you
CiTay
What do you mean, $150 power strip? A power filter like this costs 20 bucks here.

But that aside, i would return the product. You shouldn't make workarounds for something you paid good money for. If you want to get a new amp, i can recommend Yamaha...

A "tick" every 5 seconds doesn't sound like a power-line problem, unless you've got something odd plugged-in... You don't have a flashing neon light, do you? tongue.gif Maybe you can try a different power outlet (maybe run an extension cord across the house), or try it at a friend's house, etc. If you do try a "power strip", make sure to get one with an interference filter. Most power strips have some sort of over-voltage protection, but as you may know, this is not the same as a filter.

Assuming it has an internal defect, you need to return it (if possible) or get it repaired. If it's new and in-warranty that shouldn't be a problem. If it's used, it might not be worth repairing... Labor is expensive, and it can sometimes take lots of time to troubleshoot a problem. And, with modern electronics, you often have to replace an entire circuit board.

I meant power filter when I said power strip.
And like I said already, I bought it off eBay and I cannot return it.

I am returning to college in a few days and I will try it there, if it still makes the problem, I will probably invest in an UPS.

I've called Sony and the closest repair shop they said was about an hour away, which I don't plan on driving to.
