Hi all,

I have converted my entire CD collection to FLAC only to find my portable MP3 player doesn't support the format! headbang.gif (an iriver player)

Is there any tool where I can:

1. See the FLAC files on my HDD in one pane, and my MP3 player in another pane

2. I can drag and drop/single click to convert AND copy from my HDD to my MP3 player

The best way to think of what I am looking for would be FTP software with built in file format conversion.

Any ideas?? biggrin.gif

Firstly, what kind of an iRiver? Possibly Rockbox is a solution for you.

If not: drag and drop, not exactly, but FB2K will encode your MP3s to your DAP if it is seen just as a hard drive to your computer. Just make up a list of your FLAC tracks and tell it to encode.

Hiya!

It's a Clix2 portable MP3 player.

Since the player is seen as a hard drive, Foobar sounds like the tool I'm looking for! Thanks!! biggrin.gif

Last week I read that John33 has plans to update LameDropXPd. I expect that this will include lossless input support, just like OggDropXPd already has.
This will gives you the opportunity to define the music directory of your mp3 player as output dir and encode&copy in an on-the-fly style.

Hey abd08, I just did some research and found out that the Clix2 supports Ogg Vorbis as well. So you can already try OggDropXPd and have fun playing Vorbis audio, I guess even at a lower bitrate compared to mp3 and enjoy more music on your portable player smile.gif

I think the new J. River Media Jukebox 12 would be a good match with your iRiver device. MJ12 can sync the files in many ways (including drag and drop) and convert the files on the fly. In addition, it has an option to automatically keep a cache of the converted files on the hard drive. It uses the latest FLAC codec (1.2.1) with embedded cover art support. For encoding MP3 and Ogg Vorbis files it uses the standard LAME 3.97 and aoTuV r1 Vorbis binaries (which can be replaced with another version if preferred). MJ12 is free, but if you want to sync video files and photos the commercial J. River Media Center 12 has support for these.

MediaMonkey would also be an option for you. They just released 3.0 some days ago. It also supports to convert the files (to ogg, mp3...) automatically on-the-fly when you sync them.
It's not as technical as FB2K but IMHO it has a nicer interface, is easier to handle and supports scripts which you can write very easily by yourself.

Going to have a look at all the suggestions, thanks again =)
