My wife has just bought a new iPod Classic, to replace her old 4th gen greyscale model.

The dock connectors are physically the same, but are the pin assignments also the same? It would be convenient if the charging cable from her old 4G could be used with the Classic. We don't want to try it until we know for sure (5V fed into the wrong pin on the dock would probably do the new Classic no good at all!).

I'd assume so...I can use the same cables on a 1G nano and on an iPod Touch.

Yes, the dock connectors are the same.

Far be it for me to state the obvious, but you will most likely have to replace the plastic piece that fits around the dock connector.

Read your post too quickly. I guess you're not using an actual dock for charging/syncing.

Yes, the dock connectors are the same.

Thanks very much for the confirmation.

My Classic 160GB, my 5G, and my 3G all fit into my original 3G dock and all work/charge just fine. No adaptors for size needed (although the 160GB is not "snug" as the 3G is), but not an issue at all....
