Hi everyone,

I get different bitrate using the same command line with Lame 3.97 (V2).

The encoders: EAC and CDEx.

Can you tell me why?

Thank you wink.gif

Are you using "Lame MP3 Encoder" or "User Defined Encoder" for the parameter passing scheme in EAC?

I'm using "User Defined Encoder"

Thanks

Is there much difference in the length of the ripped tracks? I'm just wondering whether your settings are somehow resulting in missing silence, etc.

I'm sure someone who knows both applications (it's a while since I used CDEx) can ask some more sensible questions... smile.gif Until that time I would use something like LameTag to check the actual settings used for a couple of tracks.

There's no difference in the length. Thanks for the link. wink.gif

The question that stays in my mind is why use EAC since it takes ages to rip my CDs while CDEx is much faster?

Is there a way to notice any transcoding with LameTag?

Another thread altogether...

LameTag would tell you exactly what settings had been used to encode the files, and may help identify where the difference lies. Check the website for an example output.

I know, sorry but one last concerning EAC and other rippers:

If my CDs are scratchless is there any point ripping them with EAC instead of any other faster rippers (ea. CDEx)?

If your CDs are in excellent shape and you are not anal about being 100% certain of perfect rips (as I am not) then by all means use CDEx. OTOH, if you use EAC in burst mode with AccurateRip then you get speed as well as (usually) 100% secure.
