I'm using the default interface "Album List + Properties (Tabbed)"

I have the "Library View" playlist on the right and the album list on the left. When I select different albums on my album list, I can't get the library view playlist to update

Single click will always only select an item in Albumlist.

However, Double-click and middle click actions are configurable in the preferences. It sounds like you want the "send to current playlist" option.
