Full Version: Possible problem samples? Artist: "Pole"

Maybe there's been something useful in the trolling example thread:

There was an artist mentioned, named "Pole", whose music was claimed to be hard to encode. I listened to some (lossy compressed) samples. For example, there's loud crackling noise, like taken from a dirty LP, switched on and off, used as "drums" ... . Compared to the problem samples I know, I guess that this music could be a worthy source of problem samples indeed. I think the more problem samples you know the better - right?

So my questios: Does anyone have songs of this artist (and noticed encoding problems)? Or do "Pole" test samples even exist already?

I encoded the 4 Pole albums (named 1, 2, 3 & R) with musepack standard and I heard no artifacts, so far.

I think i even tested wma9 on tracks by Pole, and heard no obvious artifacts, so in my experience, Pole is not very hard to encode.

So it seems like xterm has been trolling at -q 10 = 100% - and I'm still too naive. blink.gif

[edit] here's space left, so I answer here:
@ the duke:
I know this is hard to predict. I meant I was naive (=too optimistic) cuz I believed that in xterms troll-post mentioned above there still could be valuable information. rolleyes.gif

naive...don't be so hard to yourself wink.gif It's difficult to predict what's easy to encode and what's not.
