Hi guys. Luckily I am finished with my CD's. They are all converted to FLAC and MP3. biggrin.gif
Now I am on my way to convert Vinylrecords. I've bought SPinItAgain and converting the record to different WAV-files (with CD-TEXT). Now I want a program which convert the complete album to both FLAC-files (for my Squeeze) and to MP3-files. Including TAGS. In one operation. Of course I can burn a CD from SpinItAgain and from there go via EAC to FLAC and MP3... Hopefully thats not nescessarry. What are the easiest way? aNYsuggestions from this forum? Regards Steinar

EAC, and every other DAE program, extract wav files from an audio CD. Many people have the DAE program encode those wav files to mp3 or other formats, then delete the wav files. The wav files are not seen by the user, but they were there as part of the process. Having wav files, you are at the point where EAC, having extracted the data from the CD, is ready to encode to some other format.

Thus, you want to encode your existing wav files to those two formats. You simply need to invoke the encoders and provide them with the parameters you want them to use (e.g. -V 2 --vbr-new). This can be done at the command line or with various GUI applications. I like Razorlame for mp3 and FLAC Frontend for FLAC.

I am not wery known to commandlines sad.gif but if somebody could help me with an examle I would be happy. Selct wav-files and end up with flac and MP3-files (in one command?)

And i assume I can't use EAC with WAV (even though EAC creates WAV during convertions of CDs)
And I am using mareo to do the convert after EAC

Let me tell You my way doing this:
  • Record a hole Album into one Wave-File
  • Split the Wave into the tracks by means of a wave editor
  • Save the Wave files with standardized filenames
  • Convert *.wav to *.flac using foobar2000
  • Write meta data into comments using MP3Tag (filename --> tag)
  • Give *.flac files shorter filenames
  • Convert *.flac to *.ogg by foobar2000
  • Delete all *.wav

I hope that helps You a bit. In order to use foobar as converter You will need to download flac.exe and oggenc.exe separately. There are easy to follow guides how to convert with foobar. As an alternative there is a flac frontend.

Just one question from my side: What do You mean with "WAV-files (with CD-TEXT)"?

Good suggestions there...you might also consider burning the *.wav files to CD before deleting them in order to to back-up your work.

First of all - thanks for suggestions.
CD+TEXT: In SpinItAgain I can create, all tags, Album, Artist, tracks, genre, year etc.. I can create it all in one Wav or autmatically (with manual adjustments) create the different tracks. I can burn this to a music CD, (NERO) put it in my other PC and use EAC and mareo and create the different FLAC and MP3 files.
The TAGS i've created will follow the files like regular music-CD's.
That is what I understand is CD-TEXT. (I am possibly wrong since your asking - but anyway this is working)

The thing is that I will not go the way via the CD, just one single command or button to convert these WAV-files to BOTH FLAC and MP3.

About burning CD's I've been thinking about that, but then I "have to" Create album Art and correct labels to the CD's. And I found these great, black CDR thathas Vinyl-layout... But my wife claims I have a life outside this as well...
Not sure - but a backup on CD had been OK. (I have backup of all MP3's and FLAC's of course..

Can't I just run MAREO.EXE with the correct ini.file together with flac.exe and lame.exe ? Or am I totally out in space? huh.gif

Hi,
I'm interested too. I'm going to do the same with some very old vinyl records of classical.
SpinItAgain is the only solution or there is something else?
And another question. Do you have a USB turntable or are you using a differente method?

thanks

There are certainly many recording applications, any one of which can correctly record from LPs. All will produce the same result (unless someone has released a defective program). WaveRepair, already mentioned several time in this thread, is freeware if you use it only to record and to separate an album into individual tracks. Audacity seems to be pretty popular, mostly because it is freeware. There are dozens, if not hundreds, of others.

There are a number of TTs containing a phono preamp, an ADC (soundcard), and a USB interface, allowing one to run a cable from the TT to a computer’s USB port, and record. This may seem more convenient that separate components, but none of those such TTs on the market that I’ve see are of very high quality. If you do a search, you will find that the topic has been discussed many times.

If you can already play phonograph records, and you are satisfied with the audio quality, you are also money ahead not to duplicate your equipment. The basic requirements are that the signal is created in the phono cartridge by playing the LP on the TT. That signal must go through a phono preamp. If you can play records, your equipment contains a phono preamp. Many receivers still have decent built-in phono preamps.

The output of the phone preamp goes to the analogue input of a soundcard. A recording program captures it to the computer’s hard drive.

Hi. I payd USD 35 for SpinItAgain and it does an OK job. I took part of mi HIFI (old but good) preamp, connected my turntable to it, (moved the stuff to the PC-room) tok line (or tape out on an integrated amp) out from preamp and connected to analogue in on the soundcard in my PC.
Thick high quality phonocables to an adapter phono->jack connected in the soundcard.
You should be pretty sure you have a desent soundcard in your PC. I have a two year old Creative Audigy card which is OK.

Tried first Audacity, but I ended at SPIN ItAgain. I have tested the noise reduction effects in SpinItAgain and I am only using decrackle and minimal rumble reduction function. Any other adjustments seems to create a loss of dynamic and depth in addition to poor sound quality.

You can teste SpinItAgain on three LP's to see it work before you buy it. The genius thing about this program is that it automatically (check it!) can divide the different tracks on your album.

You can retrieve (from Internet) information about the album (TAG) - at least the albums i tried so far.
Tried foobar200 now with flac and mp3, but not sure if the TAG followed the tracks yet. Will check and tell
From http://www.mp3tag.de/en/ I downloaded MP3TAG which also is working good for naming, renaming TAGS

I havent made any decision regarding CUE-sheets and AlbumArt

I do not backup the *.wav's, but I have backup of all *.flac's.
