When "erasing" data:
For me, a 35 Gutmann pass on data I don't want anyone else to read is actually more than good enough. 1 Pass is good enough. If someone really wants to recover my data, they probably already have it through another means. (Or they paid me a million dollars.)
BTW, I tried the CD-R in a microwave for 5 seconds and ...

To me, those using more than good enough with regards to audio compression are doing the equivalent of that.
Heck, do a little google on "thermite" and a cup of that stuff should work. Melting your hard drive at > 3000 degrees, I'm pretty sure no one is ever going to recover whatever data it was there.
Although I can not prove that.
