Here is a really naive question: Suppose I use foobar2000 to play a flac file on my laptop and feed it into the USB port of an amp that has its own DAC but can sense analog signals and pass them through. Where would the digital to analog conversion take place? (The sound system on the laptop is pretty weak.)

USB can only transfer digital signals.
