aac/mp4 audio ???
ChristianHJW
TCMP is mainly DirectShow based, so it may play MP4/AAC, but only if one day in future somebody launches a working DShow filter, and hopefully for free.

I dont know about BlackSun's plans with respect to winamp plugins for the future, right now i guess it only supports its VIS and DSP plugins ...

BTW : @unplugged : great post ! wonna have my job biggrin.gif ??

I hope that U.C.I. development is quite active as matroska, I strongly believe in one definitive codec interface replacement, I consider it a part of MCF/matroska, it better completes the real innovation of these projetcs. So in a better future we may have one solid standard for all plug-ins/codec modules.

Honestly, I can't see anymore that every (new) player borns on the net, with its pros and cons, has its proprietary media plug-in interface and thus incompatible with lot of works already well done.
think Winamp with its interface...
Cool Edit, foobar2000, Sonique, Nero internal...
There are milions of spreaded "fucked plug-ins" around the world totally incompatible with their potential application(s).

I have just discovered copy & paste funtion smile.gif
indeed too long program to be described with my few words...

Short announcement : The player has crossed the 8000 downloads barrier by tomorrow morning smile.gif ! Not bad for 3 days IMHO ....

@unplugged :

UCI should be a very reduced, minimalistic API only relevant for codecs, nothing else, to make it simple for codec developers. There are extensions planned like

UMI : Universal Muxing Interface, allows transmuxing of one format to another, etc.
UFI : Universal Fiter Interface

But Alex made clear he will first concentrate on UCI and finish that before thinks of anyhting else.

And yes, these interfaces could help a lot to standardize things, at least in the opensource world, while i dont expect closed source apps like winamp etc. to take this route.
robUx4
MCF and matroska are connected to UCI because we felt the need for something like this during the development (and even started our own project). But in the end UCI is an indepedent project that everyone could benefit in the future. We all hope it will succeed smile.gif

Its a beta. It may contain bugs, we never said its free of them.

Thanks for the unlimited appreciation for the work that had been invested into this player, including your patience. Sorry we bothered you by making and releasing it.

Quite good player, but do u actually expect to make money out of it?
Why not make all the features free or integrate support for Winamp
input plug-ins?

BTW, I opened a wmv video with TCMP and it played very poorly.
It did well with other formats though.

ChristianHJW - Congratulations on your hard work and effort. The reality is that you need to be prepared for insults and negativity. You are in effect, offering a new "Religion" to the already converted. So unless your "Religion" offers significantly more that existing established ones, you will have a very hard time.

The Mediai player market is a very crowded one and distinguishing between one and another is not easy.

It's kind of funny that many people who have a particular liking for one player, get defensive and then offensive when a new player threat appears. We are all just a herd of Baboons.

Keep up the good work.

Well, AFAIK, the idea is to make the player free. As free as it is possible to do. But for all features that require a royalty (like MPEG2 or MPEG4 playback) it just can't be free. That's why there will be a free and non free version.

Also everybody can keep on asking for features and correcting bugs. But in the end it's mostly one guy working (BlackSun) on it. So all this work require patience and comprehension from the users (unless you're ready to pay big bucks to make sure the player does what you want). In the end the result is already really good IMO.

I tried to play an mpc file with it but it told me this format is not supported (!?)
How can this be?
Vladdy
i can remember a time when I used to swear by powerdivx nextgen.. its ac3 support was excellent and it had all the right features that I liked to use.. unfortunately a good year or so has passed since i last saw any updates from it.. At the time, zoomplayer still had a lot of issues and didn't work as well (for what i wanted).. during that absense of updates for PDIVX i kinda fell to the darkside and now use ZP all the time.. i'm converted and thats how I'll stay.... To keep people interested I think its better that you keep releasing updates to show that, yes.. we're still working on it, rather than releasing something a year or two down the track and its completely different, kinda alienating those people who used to love the original product. Reminds me of when sonique had a fantastic user base.. since no updates came a lot of them moved over to winamp or whatever else..

Same thing could be said for duke nukem forever.. How many people remember the original dos game? I've lost total interest in the game now... In the same time that the next duke nukem game has taken to be made... we've had 3 quake games from ID, and I dare say that we'll also have doom 3 by the time DNF is out...

It gets my vote - only thing that plays .OGM properly on my machine

Really? What's wrong with the alternatives? Zoomplayer, WMP 6.4, Sasami 2k all play my .ogm's just fine, wherefrom the first has native support for subtitle and chapter selection. I prefer the last though, as it features the best mouse control.
TCMP, on the other hand, was rather unstable for me.

Did you notice that we went from RC1 to RC3 meanwhile ? stability has greatly improved since then ..... do me a favour and test RC4 once its out ( couple of weeks from now ), and tell us what you think.

Thanks and best regards

Admitedly, I didnt try Sasami 2k, but WMP 6.4 / Zoomplayer / BSplayer are juddery and/or suffer from the 'Green / Macroblocky' problem.

Ok, I know I could probably install a better Direct Show or Vobsub or something, but I actually like the look and feel of TCMP B)

It's not your fault, it's a nasty bug in Invisionboard 1.2 RC1 (also see the "recommended MPC settings" thread)! There is already an RC2 of the forum software, Dibrom will update soon.
