Full Version: LAME Error on compression

Hi

I keep geting an error on compression from EAC 0.99 pb3 using LAME 3.97.
Got a feeling the error happens during populating the ID3 tags.

Error is as follows:
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The external compressor returned an error!
Options: -h -v -b 192 -V 0 --vbr-new --add-id3v2 --pad-id3v2 --ta "%a" --tt "%t" --tl "%g" --ty "%y" --tn "%n" %s %d "E:\Music\#Rip\Various\tst\ttmp557)!3--.wav" "E:\Music\#Rip\Various\tst\ttmp)!3--.mp3"

File:E:\Music\#Rip\Various\tst\tst.wav
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

BTW: What are the %s and %d parameters for? I have a suspicion that they are the culprits?

Thanks for any assistance!

Set the parameter passing scheme to "user defined encoder" instead of "LAME MP3 Encoder".

They are placeholders for the source and destination file, filled by EAC if you use a user defined encoder.

Try leaving out the -tl "%g" part.

If that works, EAC is using a genre which isn't supported in the ID3v2 genre list.

edit: oops, is %g the album? Then sorry...

-h -v -b 192 -V 0 --vbr-new --add-id3v2 --pad-id3v2 --ta "%a" --tt "%t" --tl "%g" --ty "%y" --tn "%n" %s %d

BTW, I'd just use -V0 --vbr-new (without any -h -v -b) if I were in your shoes.

I'd actually use -V4 or -V5 myself...

I don't even know if you need to do all that regarding the ID3v2 tags.

Here is how LAME 3.97 is set up in my EAC config and it works perfectly fine for me. It encodes to around 224 to 256 Kbps VBR MP3 and also fills in the ID3v2 tags properly. It does delete the resulting WAV file after each encoding, so if you want to save the WAV, then uncheck that option.

Please read the wiki:

I mean no disrespect to WonderSlug, but I would not follow what he has shown above.

Thanks for the link, Greynol! I'm sorted!

Thanks Wonderslug! I did a test and found that the bitrate never dropped below 256 or whatever the bitrate setting is set to even if using VBR! Checkout Greynol's link. It is most informative.

Thanks kjoonlee!
The -h -v -b parameters are added by the EAC GUI and changed my settings to user defined encoder as advised by greynol's link below.
