I have many mp3's of dubious origin in addition to ones I have ripped myself. When I run mp3val on a sample of the former, it finds all kinds of errors (not including tag errors).

Is it safe to let MP3VAL autofix as it wishes to my original dubious files? Eve nif it does not fix, can I assume that it will Do No Harm at worst?

In my opinion, mp3's of dubious origin should simply be deleted. This is the safest and most legal way to handle them.
You know, give an answer to the question asked, which was not about your moral or legal interpretations of "dubious" files. If you have an answer regarding MP3VAL autofix then piehole open, else piehole shut. wink.gif
Edit: We have Moderators here on HA to handle the moral ethics and the legal interpretations

When it appears to me that someone is violating the terms of service at HA by discussing what are very likely illegally obtained files, am I not allowed to comment on that merely because I am not a moderator? I also believe that your uncivil answer violates another term of service.

Then become a Moderator! Your opinion on that matter don't mean sqwat, if you can't do anything about it. I will reiterate, let the Moderators handle TOS business. How this person obtained his/her files is none of my business, nor yours.

Edit: I was not uncivil towards you, I was merely stating a fact. There you go again, with you forcing your high morals on us mere mortals.

Excuse me. I'm the original poster, and the point of my post was very clear, at least for folks with above room temperature IQ.

The point, as most can readily ascertain, was the program called MP3Val. One way to appreciate this is to look at the header of my original post. Another way is to look at the body of the message, which asked about any possible dangers in just letting the program autofix files.

I bring nothing to this discussion.

Is that in Celsius, Fahrenheit, Kelvin, or Rankine (we could even go with Rømer, Newton, Delisle, or Réaumur, but I've never used those in the real world outside of examination).

Guys I don't have anything to add but come on with the comments. We can keep it to just the facts at hand, no? It's a legitimate question whether we ignore "dubious origin" or not. So we don't need to make moral opinions (or comments on others' moral opinions for that matter) more superfluous than they need to be. This used to be such a nice forum.
OK, I want a good clean fight.
