Full Version: suggestion for a music player

I have moved my collection to FLAC.

I tried the following music players:
1. foobar
2. winamp
3. wmp11

I like the way wmp11 groups the album BUT it can't read the tags on the files. The best of the 3. albums/artists can be alphabetized.

Foobar's grouping is very nice except that I need to press enter to play a file. double-click will never work!

winamp library is just horrendous. No segregation of the albums.

Any recommendation for a music player that has the wmp11 grouping but can read the tags off FLAC files?

Thank you smile.gif

I use MediaMonkey (www.mediamonkey.com) and am very happy with it. At least worth a try! smile.gif

I second Media Monkey as a Foobar alternative and I use it on my laptop

My default player is JRiver because it has feature that Media Monkey doesn't (or where they are problematic). I suggest you try Media Monkey first.

I think he means double clicking the group header.

I thought the same, but it works for me (at least in the latest 0.9.5.1 beta).

J,

I have never used WMP so I am not sure about the groupings you are talking about.

I have used the others, and am currently using 2 players that haven't been mentioned yet.

Mp3toys. (mp3toys.net) It works great with Flac, and you can use Foobar as an external player or winamp, etc.

Album player. (Albumplayer.com) using the tagging option for building a library with flac.

For grouping, album player is more powerful. You can group by something like 15 options. ANd you can create custom collections.

Both have free trials.

I have setup foobar to display the album list on the left. I can collapse/expand the folders and see the music files. When I double-click on a music file, it would not play. I need to either press enter or right-click on the file and then select "play".

maybe it's a setting somewhere?

thank you

I am using the 0.9.5 release of FB2K. but I distinctly recall one of the beta releases that allowed me to change the behavior of double click, single click, middle click, etc... EDIT- thanks Yirkha.

The action for double-click is set in "Preferences/Media Library/Album List", group box "Events". Although there isn't the simple "Play" command, the "Send to current playlist" action does the same as hitting ENTER.

For me: double clicking plays the selection from the library viewer, and middle clicking enqueues the selection...

Edit: And I believe the setting has been there even before version 0.9.5.

Probably has been, Yirkha, however I only recently noticed it and did not note where that setting what. Thanks again.
