I'm using EAC with LAME to encode my collection. Thanks to several of you, I'm off to a smashing (albeit slow) start. I've run into a strange problem. My kids have an Aly & AJ CD (Into The Rush) that I'm trying to rip. EAC rips the WAVs just fine but the LAME encoding is not working. I've tried multiple times. I've even tried after a reboot, just in case. LAME opens and closes very fast. The WAVs do not have tags associated with them because I'm using LAME switches to create the tags.

Do any of you have any idea why LAME is coming up lame in this instance?

Do any of you have a suggestion how to get this CD converted to MP3s?

I'm thinking I may need to just have EAC create the tags instead of the switches. Then there must be a way to get WAVs converted to MP3s in EAC.

Thanks.

Most likely this is a genre tag problem. If EAC is supplying a tag that is not on the list of ID3V1 genres then unless you add the lame switch to ignore tag errors, lame will simply refuse to encode the file. Some expert will step in here to suggest ways around this.

Excellent. I just checked the CD in EAC. The reported genre was "Pop, rock"! So, I just change it to "Pop" and it is working great. Thanks for the help. Problem solved. :-)

Best way to handle this (IMO) is to have EAC tag the files instead of Lame. This way you get to use whatever genre you like. I think this is only a problem with Lame 3.97 and older.

I recently ran into a similar problem in EAC where it's genre database listed a CD as "Blues\Rock"

Apparently lame doesn't like to have that backslash between "Blues" and "Rock". It refused to compress because of that, so as soon as I just named it "Rock", lame compressed it just fine.

I'm glad I ran into this thread because I was clueless as to what the issue was.
