Well I am currently trying to Declip Gotam Project album using GenieSys DeClipper 2.5 it works but I get really loud spikes which bring the overall volume down way too much and they are barely audible and if I don't fully allow the plugin to fix the clip it can actually make it sound worse!, I don't normally have this problem, the last time I had it was with an Ian Brown CD.
Can I declip a file without the restored clips going up so much, I am struggling with all the options on the declipper?

Just an idea: how about letting the declipper do its work and afterwards use a dynamic limiter to cut the spikes down?

Yeah I worked that out now, only just getting the hang of dynamic range compression, but why does declipper do this occasionally?

Seems like a nasty bug to me... does it produce audible artifacts?
Maybe you shoud send a mail with this image to anton@silksound.com?

Yeah, that looks like a bug!

Here's what it looks like to me... With signed-integers stored in binary, the most significant bit is used as the sign bit. If the number gets too high and you "overflow" to the 16th bit, you will accidently "turn on" the the sign-bit and get a negative number.

For example, if you write a simple 16-bit counting program that counts-up from zero, you will hit 32,767 (as high as you can count with 15-bits) and then the count will suddenly turn negative and start counting down!

yes it can be herd easily, it only normally happens with music that has lots of dynamic range, but with clipping, I normally pencil it out.

I don't think the silfsound plugins are being worked on anymore, are there any other free declippers?
