Dear Audio Experts,

I want to start a little surveillance project. As the title says, it will only be sound recording and no video recording. What I am after is something discrete with multiple sound recorders connected to 1 PC in a wireless manner. So in each room of the building, I would have some sort of MIC which would wirelessly transmit to the PC where the audio would be recorded and stored.

Is this possible and what kind of hardware would I require? I know I require some sort of wireless mic and maybe a PCI card for the PC which accepts audio from these wireless mics.

Any help will be appreciated greatly.

Thanks

So I will assume it's not possible. Although, I don't understand why? I already have multiple wireless video cctv all being saved onto 1 pc.

Maybe people are reluctant to advise you due to the kind of covert surveillance you're requesting information on being illegal in many countries.

Illegal or not, I suspect most of us here have no experience in the area of surveillance. That's probably why no responses.

Let's break this down into its parts...

1. You need some wireless microphones or microphones & transmitters. You can get these from a any place that sells surveillance equipment, or any place that sells professional audio equipment (i.e. Musician's Friend), and you can sometimes find cheap transmiters from places that sell to electronics hobbyists. (The hobbyist transmitters usually transmit on the FM band, and this might not be practical... if you need several channels, you'd need several FM receivers.

2. You need a receiver for each mic. You'd get it the same place you get the transmitter. (Professional-audio wireless-microphones are frequently sold as a set with the receiver.)

3. Since you need multiple recorders, you need a multi-channel soundcard. Again, you can get one from places that sell pro audio gear. It should come with multi-track recording software. I don't know if you'll find something like this at a surveillance shop. If so, you might find features like sound-activation and on-the-fly compression that will save you time and disc space. (A pro-audio multi-channel set-up is going to eat-up disk space.)
