Full Version: Something is wrong with my FLAC!

Hey all.

I recently had a computer break-down.. formatted, and suddenly my audio is skipping..

Some tracks are worse than others.. it's like the information is missing or something..

My music is on it's own separate drive. We are talking 400 Gigabytes.

I get audible clicks in the music, like it just cuts out..

Does anyone have any suggestions?

Have you checked your audio drivers?

Aye. I've re-downloaded them - reinstalled them.. to no avail.
It's wrong in Winamp and Foobar as well.
On an entirely different drive my installation files and zip archives seem to be corrupted.. :S

edit; I tried converting one of the.. skipping files to WAV, and it's still there..

Do I have file corruption?
I'm quite honestly going to weep like a small child if that is the case.

You can run a program called free program, Audio Tester (http://www.vuplayer.com/other.php), that will scan your FLAC files for corruption.

I've had that happen to my lossy archive once. There would be audible clicks and pops in playback.

Hopefully you don't have to re-rip your music collection.

My God.. all my AC/DC is gone (what I posted is only a fraction of it..) .. going to do a folder by folder sweep..
This fu*king sucks.
I guess this confirms that something screwed up all data on my HDD's? Some files survived, some didn't...

Guess I might as well delete it and start from scratch? Unfortunately all my CD's are in storage as I'm without a place of permanent residence at the moment.

Edit #2: Trying a full scan-disk... see if I can't repair some of the damage.

Altough it's unlikely as some other things should stop working correct as well, I suggest you check the integrity of your RAM by using MemTest86+. I once had a faulty RAM module and blamed it on the harddrive also.
The scandisk I did then seemed to repair alot of files on my harddisk - turns out the harddisk was perfectly ok and I killed about 60GB of data by "repairing" it with a faulty RAM module in place sad.gif.

I've run memtest, it didn't find any errors.
It's all deleted now, and I've started from scratch.
